Mission statement

My name is Sam Klemens and I write linguistically pleasing content for people interested in markets, philosophy and figuring out just WTF is going on right now...

What I bring to the table

My goal with this Substack is to write about the non-obvious forces governing our society, so that we can see the world more clearly especially as it relates to investing. Over the last six years I’ve taken an initial position of $6,000 and multiplied it many times over. The finance angle of this publication is dedicated to making sense of markets so we can make some damn money.

While I find markets fascinating, most of what I end up writing about is not related to finance. One could ask, what qualifies a relatively young man to have an opinion on topics like government policy, societal trends and philosophy? Well, that's a good question.

For the last decade I've been living abroad, supporting myself as a freelance writer. I've road-tripped through India, learned to speak fluent Russian in Moscow, partied in Berlin, spent a year in South America, visited Ukraine before anyone knew about it and I've been living in South East Asia since 2019. I read voraciously and have consumed hundreds of books in the last ten years.

I have observed many of the world's flavors and hopefully some of this perspective comes through in my writing. My desire is to cast off beliefs/dogma in favor of getting to the bottom of whatever is happening at this strange crossroads in history. We have untold abundance in our daily lives, yet paradoxically it often feels like everything is going to shit? Why is that...
