What I’m thinking about
I took a second level freediving course and got down to 89 feet. That was the highlight of my week. That and my energy stocks, which are doing just fine. Looks like China might be reopening? Or not? The story seems to change on a daily basis. Whatever the case, I’m happy to own stock in the companies that keep the modern world functioning. Apart from that I have no great insights into the market of this week. As I wrote, I remain bearish and don’t think we’ve seen the worst of it yet. Care for a second opinion? Here’s what the world of macro has to say.

Theme: I loved this article explaining how the greatest investing returns only come after a few decades. Perhaps it’s not an exciting message, or a particularly fun message, but it is a good one. A short, must read article.
Energy Problems: Yes, Still There
Theme: Lyn Alden comes in with another great article on energy. Specifically, this one addresses the problem of trying to transition to “green” energy sources without a plan for actually making the transition successful.
Making Hay Monday - October 31st, 2022
Theme: A bit of pontificating on the Fed and market cycles. In the recent Grant Williams interview with James Aitkin, James joked about the three of them only having 30 years experience each, and how it didn’t qualify them to give an opinion. Well, I’m not positive of the exact numbers but David might have close to 50 years of experience. Certainly in excess of 40. I like learning from people who have been around the block.
Building a Business is Supposed to Be Hard
Theme: Short article, but quite good. Message being, success is supposed to be difficult. Everyone we see who made it, they never gave up.
Theme: People in hell will get their ice water on the day that Kuppy writes something I don’t enjoy. This one is short and sweet: what happens in oil goes to $300? Sounds sort of absurd, but who knows. Kuppy’s point is that you need to have a plan.
Is Alameda Research Insolvent?
Theme: My friend’s FTX account got hacked and he lost $30,000. FTX never made the slightest effort to help him out, and he’s been mega bearish on the whole SBF constellation since then. This article does a fantastic job exposing some scammy practices going on at Alameda and the incestuous relationship it has with FTX. The gist of it being, probably not a good idea to hold FTT or keep very much crypto on FTX.
Theme: Arthur Hayes breaking down how awful CBDCs are and why the government might try to introduce them. Good article.

Energy Crisis Dos and Don'ts With Doomberg
Theme: I follow the energy mess pretty close but I still learned things from this one. Excellent overview of the natural gas markets, state of European shortage, oil and gas producer profitability, etc.
An absurd summation of absurd history for an absurd day.
Theme: Jeff Snider dropping some truth bombs about the federal reserve. Clowns back in the 60’s, clowns today.
Why Does our World Feel More Dangerous? With Dave Collum
Theme: You’ll hear things you disagree with, but I don’t think Dave Collum is an idiot. He is a contrarian thinker. He’s also investing in energy equities, smart guy!
The BIGGEST STOCKS Are FALLING...BE PREPARED!
Theme: I really like FX Evolution’s videos. They offer a great overview of the previous day’s trading activity, and some key levels to watch. I don’t day trade but I still find it interesting. I thought this video in particular was quite good.
The Birth of a Cycle
Theme: I watched my first Bob Loukas video all the way back in 2018. In fact I vividly remember when that video came out.
Since then Bob has helped me make a heck of a lot of money. I think it’s fair to say that his videos have influenced me more than just about any other content I’ve come across. In this video Bob claims that we’re starting a new four year cycle, and Bitcoin is probably fairly close to the lows. Time to take a position?
It’s time to go off topic
I love the Critical Drinker, his movie reviews are everything that’s right with the world.
