Benefits of a paid subscription

I’m going to offer my paid readers a product that to the best of my knowledge is relatively uncommon even in the near infinite digital wastelands of our beloved internet… The premium book review.

Any schmuck - like me 👋 - can read a book and review it right afterward. But what about reading a book and then applying the lessons, practicing the techniques and letting the knowledge strengthen your synapses for years years years, and then reviewing the book?

That’s what I’m calling a premium book review. Out of the half-a-thousand books I’ve read in the last decade there are only ~25 of which I’d consider genuinely life-changing. I’m going to review those life-changing books and,

  • Explain the lessons I learned and how those lessons may benefit you

  • Share examples of how the insight I’ve gained from a book has helped me to get past obstacles

  • Share unique insights into society, psychology and human nature that I’ve learned from reading

  • Point out connections between different bodies of wisdom that might not otherwise be obvious

Once you become a paid subscriber you can instantly access my full archive of premium book reviews 👇

I will review some books that you’ve heard of but I’m offering a 100,000% money-back guarantee that I’m also going to introduce you to fascinating reads that are entirely new to your bookshelf. I think that these reviews will be valuable for you, the reader, and I’m going to have an awesome time writing them too! Plan on receiving a new review once every four weeks or so.

Pricing

Some people recommend charging a lot for your product because your best customers will pay for it no matter what. I considered that angle but ultimately decided against it. For one thing, I’m only publishing four or five times a month and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. Furthermore, there’s something to be said for setting a price that’s accessible to everyone who’s not Kanye West.

So with that in mind here’s what I’m going to do.

  • $5 for a monthly subscription

  • $40 for an annual subscription ($3.33 a month)

  • $200 a year for a “founding member” subscription

PS - You can buy an annual or founding member subscription with ₿itcoin (or other crypto). If you’d like to do so just send me an email to theunhedgedcapitalist@protonmail.com

Monthly subscribers get…

  • The title of Patron.

  • Access to all my writing.

  • Invite to an in-person meetup in a major American city, most likely Denver or NYC (or both???), sometime in later 2024.

  • If there is enough interest I may do a bi-monthly (every other month) virtual book club on Zoom. To be determined…

Annual subscribers get…

  • All of that 👆 plus…

  • A yearly subscription is a lot cheaper than paying month-by-month.

Founding subscribers get…

  • All of that 👆 plus…

  • The option of having 2x Zoom calls with me per year. I’m no guru! I won’t fix your marriage or help you 10x your income, but we could have a chat about the state of the world, what you’re working on, the art of writing, the ups and downs of living abroad, books, why Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the greatest breakfast cereal ever, what it’s like to surf big waves, etc.

Anything else?

While I’ve just mentioned advertising in The Rollup, there’s never been an advertisement here on Substack and never will be one. The Unhedged Capitalist is a 100% reader supported publication and will stay that way until the billionaires stop flying around the planet in private jets to lecture us about climate change. So, never…

If you enjoy this writing but aren’t sure you want to pay for it, one thing you could do is tell a friend about this Substack. Find an article from the archives and share it with someone who you think would like it. I’ve done a miniscule amount of paid growth for The Unhedged Capitalist in the past year but 98% of all traffic is word of mouth & referrals.

And that’s all I’ve got. I look forward to writing for y’all and I hope that you continue to enjoy these words. If you’d like to achieve patron status you can click this little button right here.
