Damn those where my go to’s, Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches.
But yep they are a chemistry set in a food wrapper. My own experience is when eating non processed food weight is easier to control and keep off regardless of exercise. Be it vegan or carnivore which my wife and I have tried both for various health reasons. Right now I would say Im eating a Paleoish diet with the worst being lunch meat and doing good with weight and if I do even a little exercise I feel and see muscle tone even at 53.
The point about cooking at home also rings true to me for another reason than just weight. I find that even at expensive fine dining restaurants me and my wife can cook a better tasting steak or piece of fish than what we get at the restaurant.
If the worst thing you're eating is lunch meat you're doing pretty damn well! Although I suppose you have to atone for eating those breakfast sandwiches. I don't know how you did it :X I never managed to eat more than half of one.
That's a good point about cooking too. It's very tough to match a good home cooked meal, not to mention most restaurants aren't very good at cooking fish in my experience.
Cooking for yourself is the best way to eat well and save money (avoid premade foods). I enjoy cooking so it is not a problem. Stick to the store's perimeter where the meats, fruits, and vegetables are, then add regular exercise.
Sticking to the perimeter is great advice, although I do have a weakness for the chocolate aisle. That's cool you like to cook, I'll bet you're a lot healthier for it.

Good chocolates should have only a couple of ingredients. The standard Nestle ones are probably full of additives.
